Sid James narrates this short film, one of a series made by the Rank Organization and shown in Odeon cinemas before the main feature.
Actor/comedian Sid James (1913-1976) anchored many of the Carry On films with the down-to-earth, humourous charm clearly on display in this narration.
Among music hall/variety/vaudeville/live comedy folks in Britain, to “die” onstage meant to go over like a lead balloon with the audience. Poor Sid James, however, had the dubious distinction of literally dying onstage at the Sunderland Empire on April 26, 1976. On the other hand, he was doing what he loved – and nobody there that night ever forgot him!
